This morning I could not get Maggie to listen to me at all. It was raining outside, which she normally does not like and you pretty much have to force her to go out. Today I could not get her to come back inside. She would come to the back door, scratch it or whine to be let in, and as soon as I opened the door to let her in, she would run off. This went on for an hour. An Hour!! I know some people will say I should have just left her out there, but if I did that she would just scratch up my back door. I offered her treats to come in, but as soon as I got her to the door she would turn and run back down the stairs. I finally went and got my Flip Video camcorder to record my frustration.
If anyone out there can help me get this dog to listen to me better, I'm willing to take any and all tips! We are doing puppy training at Petsmart right now, but I honestly don't think it is working very well. Somedays she does okay and then other days (like this morning) if she isn't in the mood to listen, she won't. Help!!!!!
Thanks for visiting me.

Well, as the human of a dog who also listens selectively...don't have a whole lot of advice. It almost looked like she wanted you to come with her and look at something in the yard. Could there have been something in the yard? She had that "Lassie" thing going on:-)
I am thinking like Whippet. I believe there was something out there that she wanted you to come see. Just doesn't make sense for a dog to act like that! I would have been out of patience in a hurry with that behavior.
I know its not funny - but I did get a kick out of your video! I am not sure what she was thinking/doing, but as a mom of a terrier - I can say they do have a mind of their own! Your lucky you have a fenced in yard. I have to take mine out on a leash all the time. I always envy those pets who stay with their owners while not on a leash. How do they do that???
LOL! Well, looks like she wanted you to come out and play with her. Terriers are really smart dogs, but they do get bored easily. Praise her when she comes in... which I'm sure you do. I can't think of anything else off the top of my head. Good luck.
sorry you're having problems. I've known a few trainers who wouldn't train a pup until they were too a certain age because they were just too puppy! Good luck! (That's why I've always adopted adult dogs from the shelter! )
